I love when I'm looking for something in particular but while searching, find something different that I just can't pass up on.
For example, one dealer at a coin show had a "bargain bin." Every coin in there was foreign and I don't usually look in those. I'm sure glad I looked in that one. I scored an 1893 Columbian half dollar commemorative for 10 dollars. AU-55!
So, what have you guys found by "accident?"

Some of my best finds have been in bargin bins. Abount a month ago, I bought a house. When I went to get a bank check for the down payment the cashiers (knowing I take their "junk", saked if I wanted 32 $2 bills. I was hesitant to but then I decided to. Glad I did since this was included...

U.S. Gold Dollar 1853 for one pound ten shillings, just before the U.K. changed over to decimal currency. Even after 41 years of inflation, the buying price only works out at $12.

At a yard sale I found a plaque that was "Coins of the World". Was a plaque with Silver One Ounce rounds from every continent (except antarctica). These were are dated 2000. Turns out they were all silver, sold it for $200 bucks at a coin shop. not bad for $10.

I was looking through a scrap silver bin for some old dimes and scored a 1853 3 Cent for little over melt.

Found a bunch roll searching, but that doesn't count because I may or may not have been "looking" for whatever I found. In junk bins? Oh yeah I found a 1921-S Buff in G-VG in a dealer's buff cup and I notified said proprietor and he let me keep it! For 25 cents of course. I pulled a couple others and gave him a five, nicest guy ever though. I briefly debated not revealing my glorious treasure but decided with slight reluctance that honesty was the best policy. It "paid" off.

My most recent finds were a few Buffalo nickels for 25 cents each. In that lot was a 13-S type 1, 31-s and a couple 1926-d's. However, my best find ever from a junk bin was a 1916-D dime for only $3, came back from ANACS as a solid AG-3

1916 D Merc, that's amazing! How did the guy not know what he had?! I mean a 1916 D mercury is a pretty big thing to look over and throw in a junk bin. I'm impressed. Great finds everyone.

There are some dealers that are so busy that they don't have time to check individual coins and just toss 'em all in. I've found quite a few semi-keys and a key or two this way. Got a real nice '38-D walker, '16 walker, '17-D Obv walker, '96-S Barber dimes, x2.... you get the idea.

I found a bunch of old coins all stuck together with hard black goo in a old can at a garage sale for $20. I used oven cleaner to clean the mess. I found a 1879 shield nickle, some large cents and 1/2 cents 2 cent piece and some others. The shield was a key in xf and the oven cleaner did wonders. I sold the shield for $350 to my dealer. Great $20 deal. I would never use oven cleaner normally

This is kind of relevant I guess. I have a neighbor whom is very old and his mental health is failing him. Well one time I mowed his lawn, and he usually gives me $20 for the job, but he had no cash, so instead he wanted to give me a roll of 20 franklin dollars. I looked at 'em and they had never been opened or anything, pretty much mint. I figured that they were worth a lot of money (more than 20) so I declined and was just payed double the next time.

tbromme, that's very nice. I'm sure many of us would've had trouble passing that up. Very respectable of you.

I was helping a elderly neighbor with some household tasks that she was unable to do on her own. Her late husband was a coin collector and she insisted I have something for my labor. This was the result.
