I've realized this probably shouldn't be in the "unidentified" coins category. Sorry :(

It's only that I'm looking for information more concrete than what I found out about similar coins online, such as:

Who minted this?

WAS it in fact designed by Angelina Leonova, as were the bronze and copper ones of a similar design?

WAS it minted for the purpose of presenting to participants, judges, and other officials of the Olympic Games?

Were these 1500 silver ones reserved for any certain participants and officials?

Very curious. Thank you in advance, if anyone does have any answers :)

----------------------------------------------

Greetings. I have a .925 silver Russian commemorative medallion marked #1352 of 1500, from the 1980 Summer Olympics held there, and I'd love more information about it. I've found others (bronze or copper with a design similar to, but not identical to this one, or other silver ones bearing no resemblance to this one. And none I found were numbered).

I've owned it for about seven years, but find myself needing to sell a few long-cherished treasures, and so I've put it up on ebay. I took it to work today to weigh on a digital scale because an eBayer asked me what it weighs. (It weighs 34 grams.) One co-worker, interested in coins, looked at and admired it and strongly suggested I try to find out more about it before selling it.

It's already listed and ends late Sunday, and I don't want to be unfair to the interested parties by taking down the listing.

But I AM made more curious now as to any details about this item that anyone may have. I'd like, of course, more information to add to the listing so that it may possibly be seen by more potential bidders, but I'm also simply personally curious about it because it's so beautiful and I'd like to at least have a better idea of what it is that I had the pleasure of owning for so long before I have to let it go.

It was obtained in Russia at the time of the Moscow Olympics by my ex, who had the rare privilege of attending with his family as a young boy.

Hopefully someone can tell me about this stunning beauty, more than what I've guessed from research online that led me to the other medallions I found information about.

Thanks so much :) ~M.E.

Again, thanks, anyone who has any knowledge about it :) Very much appreciated!

It's a gorgeous medal. I look forward to learning more about it. Chances are your bidders know what they're bidding on and, if so, it'll be interesting to see what it goes for. Good luck.

A very nice medal and a great ebay listing. You are already bid over the bullion price of an ounce of silver.
I put it on my watch list.

You will find a lot to learn from this group and we all wish you well no matter where you are
along the collecting path of life.

This medal seems to be a mystery. It is of course not the formal medal given to winners such as this; http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/F...ic_medal.jpg.
But it also seems not to be the memorial medal. According to this site: http://slovari.yandex.ru/~%D0%BA%D0...D0%BB%D1%8C/
"Commemorative medal created by sculptor conceived Angelina Leonova. On the front side - the emblem of the Games to the silhouette stadium. Right at the top - the inscription in Russian in four lines: XXII Olympiad, Moscow, 1980. On the flip side - the view of Red Square in Moscow. The medal is made of red brass, thickness of about 3 mm". It looks like this: http://www.e-reading-lib.com/chapte...Plakaty.html

Your looks differently and is not made of red brass.

What it is? I have no idea at the moment.

The signature looks like Russian M L or M A.

Thanks so much, everyone :) Even without any revelations about the medallion, it's fun just talking about it because it's such a beauty! I hope everyone is having a wonderful day/afternoon/evening/sleepytime :)
