The company spoken about in the article has had ownership of the wreck(s) for many, many years. For those who metal detect on the treasure coast, it is illegal to metal detect in the water, as well as take any artifacts from the water. If you find something on the beach, you can have it though. The company has the rights to any treasure in the water along their area of the treasure coast.
