The issue price of that tantalum coin is said to be just 60USD. Obviously a lot of them were sold out instantly. It's reported that Kazakhstan has already minted silver-tantalum coin this year with a new theme and will continue minting such coins up to 2010. You can check the Natioanl Bank of Kazakhstan's official site and the Kazak mint for more infomation. quote: Snowman asked: Great coin!! What is it made out of?
Tantalum is a space-age metal, and Kazakstan, home of the old Soviet Baikonur spaceport, is a logical country to make such a coin. Tantalum is normally considered far too useful to "waste" on coinage. It's rare, but not normally considered a "bullion metal" - the price of unrefined tantalum oxide powder is in the order of US$30/lb, refined "scrap" tantalum around $70/lb. The price can fluctuate a lot, given that most of it is mined in the trouble-prone nation of Congo/Kinshasa (formerly Zaire), central Africa. The price spiked in the '70's, late '80's and again a few years ago.

quote: Snowman, check the first post, it is made of Silver and Tantalum
Sorry, I just assumed that tantalum was a compound not an element. Almost everything I learned about inorganic chemistry is lost somewhere in my brain next to art appreciation and sociology.

spica - I do know a seller in Kazakhstan who sells coins and is willing to tell me the original issue price (as long as he remembers)
The cheapest that I have seen is from 110USD (including shipping) to 220 USD from mad buyers.

Looks neat. Most of the sellers from Kazakhstan are not to willing to ship out the boxes because of increased costs. I really hope I will be getting mine soon together with the box and COA. With a mintage of just 4000, it's not a bad buy really.

gxseries I have mint box and COA. It's exepensive but it's possible that price increases with this low mintage. Majority of sellers sell it $150.
