Just another curious question. I was wondering about coins (and also to some extent notes) on the net on ebay which are actually in circulation right now. Seems that people sell these at a high premium above their actual conversion values. Obviously, people get these on holiday and they don't like you taking coins out of their countries so it is hard to get them. But I have seen people get Euros from the post office, and just wondered whether this can be done with other currencies? Or can currency coins be 'bought' directly from the bank or some other place which is not a dealer?

A wealth of information is greatly welcomed on this one.

Were you looking for anything inparticular? I know that some members on here would gladly sell you at face value their countries coins and mail em to you depending on local laws though.

I collect euro coins and have obtained most of my material on a swap basis. For items that would normally trade at above face I work out a favourable swap for both of us. I have also obtained some material at face from some kind members here.

Grace- " Were you looking for anything inparticular?"
I was actually looking for everything on this subject..

OK so from what I can deduce it's a case of swapping with people.
What was this thing about local laws then?

If you are looking for a Lot of coins from each country I suggest trading on here. If you are looking for just "one coin per country" I suggest some ebay auctions like

"100 UNC coins from 100 Countries" There are a few like this that show excellent quality pictures of all the coins you will get

Just try to post in the trading part here.
Write what you are looking for and what you are able to offer.
You should not get disappointed :)

Ok Maudry I might give that a try - Grace I go to ebay all the time I don't usually buy single coins though because of postage costs.

Numis

I'd check out worldcurrencyandcoin. Their prices aren't that bad and I have had good dealings with them in the past when I wanted large lots with good variety. They are good with their listings in that they actually list every country you get.

Hehe... I have had second thoughts and actually this might be a feasible plan. After all, the money could undergo considerable appreciation in value after it comes to the end of it's 'currency' stage and it would be great to have a good supply from a large range of countries... maybe the air-fare isn't so bad..

Re. the Cuban coins, not sure, they always seem so expensive..
