i wanna know what you think the best suitable grade of this coin.

as you can see in the picture below 1 of 1868 is a damaged part.

help me grade it and if someone has a book could you tell me the coin mintage and price?

thank you very much.

had move this topic from coin grading as someone has advised me to do. he thinks it would attract more attention. I hope it would, I see he has a good point.

hi baguiobookstore
The obverse is similar to Spanish coin 40 centimos in silver but did not find 50 centimos coin.
The reverse is emblem of Chile but I did not find it on Chile Krause
The marks around are maybe due to fix the coin on a ring

I made mistake it's Spanish coin not Chile I think . I found almost the same coin (obverse and reverse) but of one escudo for the same date.
40 centimos 1868 silver for VG grade $3.50
1 escudo 1868 silver for VG grade $6.00
Sorry I can help you more

Hello,

This is a 50 centavo coin from the Philippines while still under Spanish rule. There is no listing in Krause. I would grade it fine.
here is one that I have.

I think I would lower the grade to VG tops and possibly only Good. Most of the standards for non-US coins are HIGHER than the 70 point US scale and the rim damage clearly takes this coin down a full grade from whatever wear grade is assigned.

To grade fine, I would believe that this style requires a portion of the laurel leaf wreath on the Queen's head to remain - the lower bands on the crown should be complete, the letters on the ribbons should show in outline over the columns and the 4 features of the crest should have at least some of the detail remaining on all four. This is essentially the same standard used for the 8R series. That series is hopelessly overgraded by US dealers.

I didn't taken into consideration the damage to the rim. With that in mind I would revise my grade to very good. Early Philippine coins are among my favorites.
