Hi, any one with one have any points that I could need to know before buying one?
Everything I have is Minelab, but want to be aware of any possible problems before I trade the trusty old eTrac?

Been reading a lot about the waterproof battery compartment leaking during underwater use. I still regard the CTX as a bells n whistles machine, as the Etrac, which I own.
My new Etrac gathers dust while I continue to use my old Explorer 2.

I have read of not just the battery compartment leaking, but also the USB port leaked for a member of a different forum a few days ago. Off to Minelab it went. If you are planning on using it to hunt beachs exclusively, would probably be better off with a Excal. If you want it for relic and coinshooting, then it would be fine.

Thank You both for the info, this is the type of thing I wanted to hear about.
I near gave up on the Etrac too until I got hold of a emulator program and started playing with that. My hearing is starting to go off in the high frequencies and getting an understanding of the way to set it up made a big difference. I use the numbers it puts up as a guide re digging.
the other point I mention is as you set tighter and tighter discrimination it pays to go down in coil size. For instance when I have it set to see only 5 cent pieces a big coil will mean you miss many real 5cent targets because there is a nail/penny/other metal so close the it the processor calculates a total that is not in the target numbers zone.
My Gold machine is a slightly modded old SD, super reliable,
So I don't need "bell &whistles" for ego more like I am too lazy to dig needless holes--
Happy detecting to all, thanks for the info, and hope you swing over and dig many worthwhile things
Cheers

The problem I have with the etrac is limited depth capability. My buddy loaned me his and it's the same. My explorer 2 is deeper, using identical setup.

Hi Again,
I have never really worried about depth with the etrac, because my comparison was the old SD and I did-not expect the etrac to get that, in dry beach sand I fairly regularly get copper coins a little bigger than a US cent at about 8/9 inches, I have the recovery deep on, recovery fast on,trash density high, and ground difficult.
I am hoping for similar with Ctx, as I am happy with that.
In reality the vast majority of my finds are not that deep.
there have been some deeper as well but not regular.
Because of fear of dropping the etrac in the water, and also not as high a hit rate I have not gone into even shallow water.I also seem to get a markedly lower hit rate in very wet sand too but don't know if it is my settings, or just that people don,t set up their gear on the wet sand.
