I haven't posted anything in a long time as I have, for the moment, stopped buying coins. However, I have started selling some, especially my British coins. I would like to sell this coin but am not sure if it is a shilling or a half crown. I have a copy of Spinks Coins of England but the pictures of this coin are not good. Can anyone id and give me a ballpark figure of its worth? Thanks.

Looks like a shilling to me - don't think halfcrowns were issued after 1751. A shilling of that period is a bit bigger than a quarter but a half crown is a pretty large coin, larger than a half dollar.

£150 in EF according to my 2009 Spinks catalogue. Beautiful coin!

Thanks Rob. I thought it might be a shilling but needed to be sure before posting on ebay. I have listed some nice British coins yesterday and have many more to post if interested. I am selling at quite a reduced rate from Spinks trying to move them. This one will most likely be listed for around 100. thanks again.

The easiest way to figure the denomination would be to weight the coin.
