I just ordered 8 more NGC MS69 brown label ASEs from APMEX and I'm sure I overpaid. However, the 90s dates are hard for a newbie to find. APMEX was the cheapest I found and most places didn't have many if any in the slab I wanted.

ebay prices were even more for the expensive dates, the local shops didn't have any brown labels left (I bought what they had already)and none of the 90s I already have raw I don't think would grade 69, spots and some very light wear spots.

So considering they're not real easy to find how much out of line are these prices I paid? Credit card prices:

90........$52.03
91.........37.61
94.........82.39
95.........72.09
03.........36.58
07.........36.58
09.........36.58
10.........34.52

Still need 97,98,00,01,04,05,06,11,12,13 & up and my 96 is a MS67 PCGS, so I'll need to upgrade it at some point.

Very nice but why just graded 69s? why not all graded 70s? Is it hard to find graded 70s in older coins? I realize 70s are more money, is there that much of a difference between the two?

I was thinking of buying just graded 70s coins but all new coins year 2013 maybe some 2012 .

For brand new ones like mined in the last few years theres a good premium between the two but its not huge. For the 70s minted in the 90s they are very rare and go for BIG bucks.

PCGS for instance has a total population of 35 for the ms70 ASEs before the year 2000 with several years have no 70s.

"I realize 70s are more money"

You hit it right there. While I usually closely adhere to Ben Franklin's wise saying, "You seldom regret having gotten the best" at this early stage in my collection buying 69s are painful enough.

And how many people can really tell the difference? While it would be psychologically satisfying to have 70s over 69s I'm content at present with the lower grade. This could change though.

I sold an MS70 last year for ~$1500, they can get pricey. It just depends how many of what type got submitted and the pop report. nlp

Plus there's not much practical difference between a 69 and a 70. The über high prices some 70's can go for may call into question the "optimum collecting grade" as qdb would say. Is it really worth 10 to a 100 x's more the price? Some collectors would say yes, some no.

Well the thing about the 07, 09, and 10 is that those three got slabbed as MS-69 because somebody sent in a large batch at one time wanting to get the magic 70. The purpose of a large batch is that you set a minimum grade for them to slab, 69 in this case, and let them slab several as 69s and a few as 70s. So the bulk submitter makes a few dollars on the 69s (to pay for the PCGS grading fees) basically and makes a whale of money on the 70s. Of course if the quickly pop the 70s for a whole fist load of money then they essentially have little if any cost in the 69s depending how many 69s verses 70s they got back from PCGS.
