To me it depends what kind. At the current spot id be comfortable buying rare numismatic gold, in terms of bullion Id really like to see under 600, but would consider it in the 600-900 range is I really liked it.

Really anything under $1000 I would slowly start buying (about 1oz a month) and under $500 (if that ever happens) I would be buying a bit of it. (maybe 4-5oz a month). For now I'm not buying.

Unexpectedly bearish. I was thinking start around $1,100 really get interested under $1,000. I didn't think anyone was predicting gold below about $800-$850. This is a good thread so far.

There are some gold proof pieces that might be worth considering at the $1,100 price level. However, for simple accumulation, I'd consider $900 the starting point for some modest purchases. I'd then try to buy regularly as long as the price remained at or below that level. There might also be some interesting opportunities in silver as well. However, at the prices we're anticipating, my focus is going to be on gold.

Oh, and to be clear. These purchases will go toward completing some personal collection goals as opposed to just stacking on speculation. I am NOT buying anything on the assumption that gold is going to skyrocket in price any time soon.

I assume no one here would buy a large enough amount in a year much less one purchase to have as much as they would want when gold goes up again. So I was assuming people would start nibbling sooner and over a long period of time.

Agreed, SB. But I think the perception that gold absolutely will drop below $900 is so strong, it's keeping people like myself on the sidelines. Another $200 drop, however, will surely get me hunting for some nice proof coins.
And you're right. Even at $900, no one I know is going to be stacking gold as if it were silver. For me, this is only about adding some numismatic gold to the collection while I can.

$800 is the mark for me. I won't feel badly at all if I miss the bottom, though. I don't know if this is a common feeling but I actually prefer the appearance of silver, myself. But I'd rather stack gold than regular bullion silver any day. Even with my relatively modest collection of a little over 1k ozs. of silver, it's definitely a space eater. My fiancee tells me all the time, "We need a bigger safe!" ;)

I keep seeing the $750 mark flashing in my face but in reality it would depend on my financial situation at the time. Being a construction contractor my income stream is less than steady.
