So almost three weeks ago, I get a 1960 - 1985 counter-stamped, gold plated half from my dealer's cash box. Suffice it to say, found to be granny bait from the 80's that sold for $6

Today, making a "bank raid" in town for halves and dollars, one of the cute tellers at my chosen branch of my bank remarks "This one sounds a little funny, maybe it's silver?"

She places it down and we both see that it's got a slight golden hue, and well looky there, a 1960 - 1980 counter-stamped bicentennial half surely made by the same outfit 5 years earlier.

"Oh yeah, I got another one of those a while back" I say, "Not enough gold on it to make it worth more than face value."

"Sure looks funny, though"

I thanked her as I set it aside separately from the rest of the lot.

Picture of BOTH my counterstamped halves and a regular one for comparison.

Any collector value the coins had was ruined by the plating - it renders the coins to be junk.

I have come across gold-plated or gold-washed Eisenhowers more than once. Most of the time the plating seems to be a lot better on one side than on the other.
