Well, I joined here yesterday, and read a bunch of stuff in this coin hunting forum. Wouldn't you know I was out at the bank today looking for coins. I ended up bringing home a box of pennies, a box of dimes, and a box of quarters. I started with the quarters looking for silver. Many of the coins in the box turned out to be uncirculated 2013 Nevada Quarters. probably over half of the box. I did not end up finding any silver or proofs or anything interesting in that box. I moved on to the dimes. I took this opportunity to fill the 1965-2008 years in an empty album I had. No S mints found, but I learned that the S mints were proof. And then, I saw a 1964 Rosie! WOohoo, I broke the silver skunk with only 6 rolls left of the 50. I finished the dimes and nothing else. 1 dime of silver so far. I saved the pennies for last hoping that if I did not get silver, I could pull a few wheats and be happy with it. Well, I pulled a TON of wheats out of this box. I knew things were going to be good when I pulled 10 wheat pennies out of the first roll I picked randomly. There were new coins mixed in as well, but all in all, this $25 box of pennies had 156 wheats in it. 7 of the rolls had wheats facing on the end. The oldest penny was 1918, and there was one s date, 1925. That one went into my penny book I have had since I was a kid. I also filled the 1934 slot. The big piles are 30s, 40s, and 50s on the right. All it all it was a ton of fun! One of the rolls had 11 wheat pennies in it. It was nuts. Wheat was just falling out of almost every roll. Only probably 5 or 6 rolls had no wheats in the whole box. The last 6 rolls I opened which were showing a wheat on the end contained: 9 8 4 2 7 8 for wheat counts Pretty pleased with that, I hope I can get the next box in sequence on Monday. Id like to try nickels and halves as well. Gotta figure out how to dump too. Plenty of banks in the area.

Nice finds. Wish I could score on wheats like that! I only average 6-8 per box.

Wow - that's great luck for your first box. I have done dozens of boxes and bags and only hit 1 box and 1 bag like that. It sure is fun

Finding all of those wheats is like taking a good turkey first time out-hooked for life. Congrats!

That would be great, I always welcome the advice of those who know more than me :-) Which is everyone here at this time lol. Wouldn't you know, I am about to open a box of nickels and 2 more boxes of pennies. One of the penny boxes, even though from a different bank, has the same number printed on it as the my first amazing batch. I hope I luck out again, saving that one to the end. ***update The box of nickels turned out a no date buffalo! Score! First box of pennies turned out 18 wheat pennies, including a 1941 d that filled a hole in my book. There was also a 1917 that was darkly discolored but did not appear to have much wear on it, wheatlines were visible. 2nd box produced 19 wheats! I took a 1925 from this batch and replaced the one already in my book. So, for my first weekend of CRH, I got 193 wheat pennies, a dateless Buffalo nickel, a good number (forgot to count) of 1959 and earlier Jefferson nickels, and a silver dime. I am pretty pleased!

The good luck continues! I just went back to the same bank that had the good box on friday (156 wheats), and got another box. I just finished it, and pulled 107 more wheats. I will add some more detail after I wash up and make some dinner. ** update Ok, so I have been extremely fortunate with the quantity of wheat pennies I have scored in my first 4 boxes ever. If my math is correct, the total for the 4 boxes is exactly 300 wheats. Many of them appear almost uncirculated, as if they were put away immediately. Full wheat lines on tons of them. The more I look closer, the nicer they look. Here is the breakdown from this box today: 30 x3 34 x2 35 x3 36 x2 37 x10 38 x2 39 x5 40 x4 41 x8 42 x4 44 x2 44d x2 45 x4 46 x2 46d x1 47 x2 47d x1 48 x1 49 x3 49d x1 50d x3 51 x3 51d x3 52d x7 53 x2 53d x3 54 x1 54d x2 55 x2 55d x1 56 x2 56d x7 57 x5 57d x2 58d x2 here are some pics taken with my phone

My goodness! Insane! My box had 13 wheats in it, and I was pleased with that. there's only one downside to your first couple boxes: you may not come close to that many in a LONG time. Good luck though! Hope I'm wrong.
