I had some extra time on my hands this weekend so was able to take pics of some coins I have been wanting to post. This one is a 1999 P brown dime 2.25g.

Any idea why the color? It's not a dug dime other than a few dings it's a clean dime no pitting or signs it's been buried.

Sorry if I take too many pics, sometimes it looks like the same pic but with a subtle light change I'm still working out the bugs on how to do this efficiently and with a bit of quality. I have sooo many to still look at and photograph if they look like something worthwhile to post.

Something was added to the coin. It varies and it isn't a good thing. PSD

torched? Some people used to melt silver coins over a tub of water. The water cooled the silver in melted shape. They passed the silver mass as native silver mineral to make money.

I got an uncirculated roll of 1955-S cents that someone dipped into soapy water and dried them with a candle. Ruined them all giving them different colors. Blue/yellow and different tones. This may have been what happened to this coin? There are other things people do to coins to change the appearance. Was not minted this way.

I still think this could have been buried or perhaps thrown in a fountain or wishing well - I pick up British 5p and 10p coins off the beach sometimes which are this colour.
