Opened up a nice shotgun roll of 56D's. Does anyone see multiple faint S's east of the D mint mark? In looking for 1956D/S markers, think I see them in the background or next to raised areas. Maybe I'm just seeing things.

I'll have to check this one tommorow. The location seems close, but where is the RPM? In this die state it should be the most visible?

This one puzzles me, all I see is bottom dimples east of the mint mark. But I see a light "S" the same size as a mint mark east of where the rpm 1956D-1OM-002 should show. Coin is very nice, maybe a 66, possibly next polishing between CC's MDS and LDS photos. Mint mark placement and type look correct for a 1956D-1OM-002. Some Machine Doubling but not major. Nobody else answered so maybe others don't see the light "S" I do.

The mint mark location is a dead on match, but the OM isn't present as strong as it should be.

OK, I think we see the same thing. Is this a die state that the over mint mark is faint, like I'm color blind so I do not see images in the color blind test pages? It seems as the die gets worn the "S" becomes easier to see. Is this coin is an example of the same die not producing the "S" image?

The OP's example doesn't exhibit the strong "spike" that is a usual diagnostic in both the earlier and later die states. I have a couple of the LDS's available that show a nice, yet faint image of the S. I'll try to image them tonight and post them up for comparison.
