I saw this while roll searching, where my attention was immediately caught by the thin edge that seemed to lack all reeding. I pulled it out thinking it'd be the most worn dime in the world but instead got this oddball.

There's a substantial loss of detail on the obverse, and the rims are incomplete to the point of swallowing up details on the coin, most notably the date. There is a decent amount of luster on the low points. The coin appears to be thinner (though not substantially smaller in diameter) and the reeding is only just slightly apparent at high magnification.

I've seen enough die wear, worn coins, and greasy dies to not think it's any of those, but what it is I have no idea. Opinions are welcome.

Oh yeah, sometimes I forget about dryer damage. That probably is it. It probably stayed in for just long enough to look like this but not be completely obliterated.

Ya I agree it's probably a Dryer Coin. Around the edge it is starting to develop a "fold in" if you will. That is typical on Dryer Coins. And would explain the loss of delail around the rim.

I have this same coin with the errors in the same spot as yours. I have been trying to figure out what the strange things were on it with no luck. I can upload photos if anyone has any suggestions on these dimes. I've been looking for days and can't find anything, however I am very new to this.
Very interesting that the warped date is in exact spot as mine, unless you put back into circulation and I found. Haha just curious if any new information on this post.
