I found this face-up in the dirt on my way over to show the bank tellers (that set me up with coin bags) my 1972P DDO from last night. It's gotta be MDD, right? The "O in GOD and the "T & R" in TRUST seem different than the MDD I posted a couple of weeks ago. But, it's gotta be MDD, for sure...

Thanks Coop, but I was wondering if there is more than one type of Master Doubling, because if you compare the O in GOD on my coin to the O in GOD in your picture, there are clear differences. Also the same can be said for the T and you in TRUST and the split at the top end of the 9 when you compare the two. Still learning so much and have often wondered wondered about more than one type of Master Doubling. I appreciate your patience with my educational process. Thanks so much.

There were two master dies made. One normal and one with the master die doubling.

Well, it's official, I'm a dummy... I don't know if it will make any difference (please let me know if it does), but in an effort to provide accurate information, when posting this pics for this coin I mixed up to of the photos with a 1972-P MDD I had found earlier. Here are the correct photos of this coin. I apologize for my goof.

That one is MDD. The damage to the "D" on GOD has flattened the rest of the devices in that area. Nothing is enlarged like you would see on a doubled die. The problem with circulated coins is that they are affected by the contact from other coins.

If you are looking at the extra thinnest of the devices, then that would be the product of over polishing. When the die is worked over too much, the width of the devices are narrowed as the die's material is polished away.
