Readers of the USA Commemorative sub-forum would recognize that I have been pursuing for years a type set of circulated classic silver commemorative.

My multi-year pursuit of this niche collection has been well documented in this 15 page CCF thread:

https://goccf.com/t/98223&whichpage...ckelsearcher

I started by housing the coins in a Dansco album ... and back in the day broke out a PCGS XF40 Panama-Pacific half dollar for the album. I still have the original PCGS label.

To the point of this post ... I decided 2 weeks ago to sample the waters of ebay selling to rid myself of some duplicates ...

I listed the ex-PCGS XF40 Panama-Pacific in an honest, no reserve auction with clear photographs and was thrilled that I had 6 bidders and 20 watchers ....

Today I received a message from ebay that I have violated their coin listing policies and that my listing has been removed!

Why?

A supposed 'expert' from here ... the family ... CCF ... decided my coin was counterfeit and sent that note to ebay.

I can't imagine there are many CCF folks who recognize the diagnostics of these coins in circulated state better than I have learned to do ... wondering why/who would cancel my auction?

I am way to new to ebay selling (2 weeks) to know if I have any recourse ... need some help from the ebay experts.

1. Can I re-list the coin ... or will ebay forever flag it as 'bad' based on the CCF 'watcher' opinion?

2. Should I contact the bidders and attempt to explain that I was not trying to rip them off with a counterfeit coin?

Long post ... apologize for that.

Geepers ... what an irony that a CCF expert on circulated silver commemorative coins gets busted in the chops by a fellow CCF member.

Any help on how I resolve this would be much appreciated.

David

Are you sure it was someone from CCF?

You can relist it this time, I'd include the PCGS cert too.

I'm not going to get too worried about this ... disappointed indeed but life goes on.

Quote below from the ebay no-reply message ...

-----------------------------
ebay may end any coin or currency-related listing if we believe that the sale of the item might create liability for the buyer, the seller, or pose a risk to the Community. Sometimes problematic auctions are identified by a group of members that comprise a Community Watch Group for currency listings. As far as the exact problem with the item(s), the following was received from the Coin Community Watch group: "Counterfeit." With regard to the assessment of the listing, as ebay employs no experts in the field of currency we are unable to arbitrate disputes. If you believe this coin(s) is genuine you will need to have the coin(s) authenticated by an approved grading company before the item(s) can be relisted.

Please be sure your future listings follow these guidelines. If they don't, they could be removed.

--------------------------

I've reported many counterfeit classic silver commemorative to the Bay using the CCF 'special' link ... amazed that I am an unwitting victim of the same mechanism.

Alas ... need some family support to minimize the damage to my new ebay selling account ... being called out as a cheat does not bode well for buyer confidence.

Google Coin Community Watch Group. Has nothing to do with CCF. It is a group of 7 "experts" that work with or for ebay.

If it is no longer encased in the slab you cannot use the slab certification. This is part of the huge rule change last year.

That just dawned on me seal.

In the description, you might be able to put prior PCGS but just don't put a grade.
I've done that before. No problems.

I wouldnt be too worried about that other than the hassle or trying to sell it. Thatll disappear soon enough and most buyers will never know it was even there.

I would be careful of how much you include about its former PCGS status though so it doesn't look like youre trying to list it as a PCGS coin. Id keep it out of the title but a bit about where it come from in the description shouldnt be a problem.

Good ... I feel much better with that knowledge. Thanks for setting me straight.

Hopeful that this so-called 'experts' are a bit more careful next time ...

I'll set the coin aside for a few weeks and then re-list. I'll make mention in the description (not title) that it was removed from a PCGS XF40 holder.

Yes, unless your coin is slabbed you can not use the number grade. That is against policy. If you break your coins out of their slab, then you have a raw coin now. You can not say that it was someone from here that reported it. ebay could have caught it and removed it. ebay has removed one of my listing that was a duplicate BIN listing I entered by mistake.
