hello all,
Whilst clearing out my grandad's(sadly passed away) things I came across a small collection of banknotes had tucked away in an old box. There are some uk ones and the none uk ones all seem to come from when he was stationed at various location around the world when he served during the second world war, including some military issue notes. I dont really know much about his sort of thing so don't know the value or history of them but seems a nice little collection from a period of my grandad's life. Any information gratefully received
thanks
Dan

Get the right holders and a folder to put them in for a 'Grandad's collection' for future remembrances.

And keep an eye out for short snorters.

Welcome to CCF, and the only hobby where you aren't out of money when you're broke.

And... great pics for a first post!

thanks everyone so far,
i scanned them in at 600dpi and then used the optimiser as they were over 5mb but have kept the original scans as well as they are of a very high quality. Lost my grandad a few years ago now but have only got round to sorting stuff since my gran went into a home keep finding interesting boxes and this was what was in one of them.
KK what does VF stand for ? parklane any recommendations of where to get holders ? short snorters ? lol

VF stands for 'Very Fine' (on the scale of grades, thats sort of like 6/10). And in terms of holders avoid anything that is made of PVC, get mylar holders.

Hello and welcome.

"CV" in collector parlance usually stands for "catalogue value" - which is typically what you'd expect to pay for one walking into a coin dealer or bidding on ebay.

Wartime "Short Snorters" are banknotes that were owned by servicemen, who got their friends and comrades to all sign the notes. Such notes are not only cherished souvenirs and bearers of wartime memories, but can prove valuable documents for researchers attempting to trace the movements of soldiers and companies during the war. Here's a good example.
Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis

Welcome

re the British notes:

10/- note with signature J S Fforde dates from 1966-70, as this is when he was chief cashier.

The Somerset £1 notes date from 1980-1983. DHF Somerset was chief cashier 1980-1988 and the £1 coin was introduced in 1983.
The Page £1 note (HX79) dates from 1970-1980.
