It looks like a 1 centime of Belgium.

No doubt about it â€" I was looking at one just like it last night. Belgium, probably 2 or 5 centimes, Leopold I or II. The diameter would tell the denomination, but I can't make out the numeral (the "s" rules out the 1 centime). Beyond that very difficult to attribute ; the wear & corrosion make distinguishing between the two Leopolds pretty difficult, but it's clearly not the monogram of Albert.

Not Albert's monogram. Seeing how I can read CENTs, this coin had French legends, since obscured by burial/corrosion.

Publius,
Thank you for pointing out my error so nicely.

I had thought of a 2 centimes, but the number didn't look like a 2 to me.

I've never seen one in such poor condition but perhaps it's been lying in ploughed and fertilised land.

I don't think its the wide rims type. It is not Albert. Size of farthing. So it looks like 2 centimes between 1869 and 1909.
