DON'T clean this one. Much too nice as is.
If you did clean it, and sent it away for grading, it would come back:
"AU50 details.
Cleaned, edge bumps."

The wear on the high points helps to accentuate the design.

A full grade better than mine.

I think this is one of my favorite coin designs and I like the contrast the soil gives it but I was thinking a soak in distilled water couldnt hurt unless there is another color under all that grime. How much does the rim damage impact the value?

The rim damage in this case would probably knock off somewhere between 25% and 50% off it's value, below the same coin in equivalent condition, without rim damage.

You risk loosing even more value if you clean it.

EF45 Details. IMO its already a details coin with all the rim dings and it appears that someone attempted to clean this in the past, most likely by just running it under water and rubbing it with a cloth. I dont think its going to make a bit of difference at this point if give it an acetone bath. for me, if I was keeping it for my personal collection, I would. if I was re-selling, I wouldn't

Hello,

I'm in the XF-40 camp just because of the rim dings and minute breast wear: still a beautiful coin.

Probably wouldn't look so bad in an album where the rims might be a bit hidden. Has great bones but almost looks like it was in a bezel.
