If you did clean it, and sent it away for grading, it would come back: "AU50 details. Cleaned, edge bumps." The wear on the high points helps to accentuate the design. A full grade better than mine. Eklections Valued Member United States 171 Posts	Posted 07/29/2013 11:16 pm I think this is one of my favorite coin designs and I like the contrast the soil gives it but I was thinking a soak in distilled water couldnt hurt unless there is another color under all that grime. How much does the rim damage impact the value? Report this Post to the Staff
sel_69l Bedrock of the Community Australia 21786 Posts	Posted 07/30/2013 03:22 am The rim damage in this case would probably knock off somewhere between 25% and 50% off it's value, below the same coin in equivalent condition, without rim damage. IMO its already a details coin with all the rim dings and it appears that someone attempted to clean this in the past, most likely by just running it under water and rubbing it with a cloth. I dont think its going to make a bit of difference at this point if give it an acetone bath. for me, if I was keeping it for my personal collection, I would. if I was re-selling, I wouldn't Report this Post to the Staff
