Here are two more tokens/medallions. They are both silver and do not have any markings on the back. I do know there was a battle of Verdun, so perhaps the one is in rememberance of that battle.
For a Verdun medal, you'd normally expect to see "Ils ne passeront pas" on the reverse. Words reputedly said by General Nivelle during the battle. The very lack of anything on the back makes them interesting. I don't know if there was a date marking/hallmarking system in operation in France at the time but is there anything to indicate the date of manufacture? Many of these remembrance type of medallion were made long after the war.
As I said I have perhaps another 15 different pins and medallions which seem to go with these including old material poppies. I will hopefully have them posted by tommorrow.
Hmm, it does say "Verdun 1916" but of course it may have been made later. In the bottom picture, roughly between eight and nine o'clock, there is a "signature" which I think says M. PAUTOT - that would probably be Marcel Pautot.
