Today I went metal detecting on the beach near Corpus Christi, Texas. I found 2 beer caps, a tent stake, and an iron bar for several hour's work. Any advice for (dry) beach metal detecting?

lol, keep trying? Envision where you might loose things? haha, sorry...but I don't think there is a tried and true way of searching...kinda a luck and intuition thing.
Oh, side note, not beach hunting, but try asking about the history of the land you want to search. Might find out there's a very very old house in the middle of the woods or something.

How many ghost towns in Texas? Just remember to see if It's public land or you may permission first.

Hi jlgaudlitz95, I have a few tips on detecting the dry sand. First is dig every signal, and I do mean everything. Second is do a little research and look to see at what point the high tide reaches, this is the place you will find lighter items and about a meter or so lower you will find heavier items. Third is wait for a good storm, a real good earth shaker, then as soon as you can hit the beach and detect every inch that your detector can cope with, if you let us know your detector type we could help more, :P
You will never soar like an eagle if you hang around with turkeys.....

Thanks for the tips, MetDet71. Unfortunately, I won't be able to detect on the beach again for a while, since I just went there for vacation. I'll make sure to keep them in mind, though. As for my detector, it's called the Bounty Hunter Junior.(I know, it's cheap, but it was a birthday present a few years ago. I haven't been able to afford a better one yet.) What would you recommend for a beginner on a budget?

I just got a Bounty Hunter 2200, for the amount of time I'll be able to use it I'm pretty happy with it. I'll be going to the beach I grew up near in a few weeks and hope to do some detecting then. Who knows, I lost a bottle opener there over 30 years ago......I sure miss that opener, it's about time I took another look around for it.

Well, I'm back from the beach. No luck except that I helped clean the beach. I found 7 bottle caps. No opener either.

Just got back from vacation to Myrtle Beach SC. My first time hunting a beach turned out good enough. During the day there were hundreds of people on the beach, so what I did was noted where the majority of the people set up their beach chairs and towels etc. Then I waited til right after the sun went down and hunted that strip of beach really good. I was pretty limited on time, so I didn't get to try other tactics. I found about $1.35 in change, a toy truck, and quite a bit of trash.
