I just bought this 1892 half as it has the same flat field that is seen on all the Proof quarter in the 1890's It has the same purple glowing tone that also seens to be found on most of them. The coin also looks to be a flat strike that is seen on the PCGS coin facts page for this date in proof as well. Is there a given pick up point. Coin facts shows only 103 minted.

Thanks for the help

I don't see a proof in your photos, a nice AU example.

I would expect more details in the hair and collar.

There was an earlier post with a similar question and commems posted this link: http://stacksbowers.com/auctions/Au...LotID=323432

When you view that proof to yours the hair and colar as well as the reverse the globes and sails are much more pronounced.

I say a very nice looking coin but lacking the details of a prof.

I have it as an AU as well, I was comparing it to the PF 62 on coin facts and even that lacks detail. I will check out the link. At worst I am 5 dollars heavy in it.

After looking at your coin and the one presented on PCGS' site, I would suggest that the 1892 proof coin shown on Coin Facts has noticeably stronger detail vs. the coin you've illustrated.

You also mentioned "purple glowing tone." Many of the standard-strike Columbian half dollars exhibit attractive greenish/purplish peripheral toning based on their storage in early holders.

I agree with the consensus - I also see an AU coin.

Sounds like you purchased it at a good price - hope you're happy with your piece of US commemorative history!

Agreed with the forum consensus stated above ... this is a clean AU example of the first classic silver commemorative half dollar.

Nice coin ... very worthy of any collectors set.
