I have been trying to get as many silver/cool coins as possible over the past couple of weeks and have had some pretty good results so far. I have almost my whole family looking for coins. My mother in a manager at a gas station and keeps a look out for coins. My brother is a cashier at another gas station and he is looking. I work at a grocery store and ask the office if they have any coins. So far from those resources I've accumulated 2 64 Kennedy's, a 66 Kennedy, 71 kennedy, 1927 Buffalo nickel, 71 Ike, three 79 Susan b Anthony's, about 6 wheat pennies oldest being a 1919, and about 22 dollar Sacagaweas/presidents. Not to bad for about three weeks especially cause the Kennedy's were all swapped for face value. Hopefully ill have the same luck over the next three weeks.

Nice! I try to do the same with my family and friends, haven't been as successful though.

You can have them look for more modern coins as well. Have them try finding 2009 Nickel's while they are at it! Even circulated those are good finds.

Is there something special about a 1971 Kennedy half? I know they were 40% silver up to 1970, but I didn't know that a regular 1971 half was anything special. Just curious.

Nothing overly collectible about the 71 that I am aware of. The 70 is a bit of a different story since it was only sold in sets that year.

No the 71 is not that special but I decided to keep it anyway. Why should I keep 09 nickels? I do save all my nickels though.

Avshater22 - the 2009 nickels were a low production year. Try findng them in the wild and you'll see how few there are out there. Since you have a network of people looking why not? You can check the price of them on ebay and elsewhere... plus it makes for a fun little challenge!

That's what I figured with the 09 nickels. I usually buy a couple rolls of nickels and pennies every night when I leave work. Well have to go through my nickel stash and see if there were any 09's.

Good way to keep a look out for coins.
