Specifically the reverse side. It was just sold to me on ebay as "uncleaned." The listing's picture was not very clear. Would it get a details grade?

The coin does looked cleaned the hairlines on the reverse show up plain as day. There was substantial spotting at one time possibly PVC damage that was also removed evidenced by the discolored areas and around the rims.

I'd grade this around AU50 or AU53 details cleaned. Value in the $60-70 range IMO.

I would assume this one to have been cleaned. Take it out in bright sunlight and rotate it a bit under a loupe; at one angle or another, under those conditions the hairlines will jump out at you.

I will take a better look at it. I think should I send it base on principle? The seller had a "no return policy" but the coin was not sold "as is lok at the picture" it was sold as "not cleaned!" Which appears to be untrue. I thinking that I could protest to eBay/ buyer protection etc if it the seller was not responsive. Or I would maybe take like a partial refund for the "details issues". I probably should not have bought it in the first place, as I am trying for a bit more higher end in the shield series.

The pics you've presented are not conclusive, just sufficient for one who has seen a lot of it in the past to make an assumption. It's not inconceivable that the scratches we see are an incidental scrape and not indicative of cleaning; I asked you to look at it in sunlight to see if those hairlines extend all over the face of the coin as they should if it's been brushed.

Furthermore, you didn't pay too awful a price for it, even cleaned.

Depends on the price you paid, you don't say, but finding coins of this era that have not been cleaned - even slightly can be tough if not almost impossible these days. The 1980's brought on the advent of "dipping all the coins" that didn't sit well with me and others that appreciate the darker more natural look most coins get over 50+ decades of storage.

As to returning it? What did you pay for it? Under $80.00 I'd just keep it and learn from the event, anymore, possibly yes a return or partial refund may be in order.

When buying coins online form a photo a return policy is a must, and any dealer or seller that has ethics should stand behind a reasonable return policy IMO.

I paid $51. Look at under sunshine and with magnification it is really easy to see the scratches on the reverse.
