I am not familiar with this. That, in this case, leads me to suspicion. At least, that is my 'gut' feeling here. I would be thinking 'deliberately corroded' cast fake. The 'corrosion' is to hide detail, to make it harder to identify. The tooled edge make me negatively curious. It would only have very little value even if it was genuine, which I doubt.

This is a poor cast fake of a fake which is in turn a copy of a fake...... Here is the original fake.... Which is a Paduan AE sestertius medallion of Commodus, by or after Giovanni Cavino, Italian 16th century obv: M COMMODVS ANTONINVS AVG PIVS BRIT laureate, draped and cuirassed bust, r. rev: PM TR P X IMP VII COS IIII PP Salus seated l., holding patera from which she feeds serpent coiled around a tree; statue (Baccus?) atop short column before her at left; SALVS in exe. cf: Klawans pp. 96-7, 1; Vierordt 1749. In more recent times this fake has been faked to produce these.... The OP coin is a cast fake of one of these... Martin
