I am trying to find a good 1819 coin from Hessen-Darmstadt, Germany. My g-g-g-grandfather was born in that year. I found this one on ebay. How high should I bid on it? Can anyone find another 1819 from that part of germany?

Thanks,
Scott

There are quite a few for sale in the various shops at http://www.ma-shops.com (search for hessen 1819). Be careful with the ebay one. I'm always cautious of auctions where the bidder ID's are kept hidden. Of course you might get the ebay one cheaper than one from a shop.

It's always fun when you can tie a coin into family history. I've been buying coins from the areas my ancestors lived for a while & it's neat how they tie together.

Brian,

Thanks for the link. Looks like a good source. I have been into family history for quite a while and never thought to add coins to my research!

I've bought from a couple of the MA Shops dealers & always been happy. It's neat to have coins just like ones your ancestors would have used two or three hundred years ago.
