Hello friends,

I have done limited buying for the past year but have recently purchased about a dozen coins. I spent most of July religiously scouring the "bay" for coins and have had, IMHO, great success in finding some super deals. I hope to post them all as time permits.

Drum roll.....introducing coin #1:

This coin rates R5 for rarity and cost me $16

Constantine City Commemorative - Cyzicus RIC VII 108

Obv: CONSTAN-TINOPLI, pearl-diademed, helmeted, wearing imperial mantle, holding reversed spear

Rev: Victory on prow, scepter in right hand, left hand on shield.

Exergue: dot SMKE

Rare is cool, but the coin stands tall on condition alone. Kudos bro.

This is a nice coin with excellent detail. The die crack gives it even more character.

Thanks all!

I was surprised the seller had an opening bid set at $12 with a $16 BIN price and free shipping. Needless to say it was an "insta-click" for me!

Of course rarity ratings aren't necessarily accurate or meaningful as I may be the only soul on the planet that cares about this coin, but the thrill of victory is nice.

The coins and their history stand on their own.

@Echizento, the die crack couldnt be placed better for me and the physical characteristics of it are really exquisite to me as well. Like a lighting bolt traversing majestically through the mint mark dot.

Cheers,

-Kurt

Super nice coin!

Not all Victory On Prow coins are extremely common.

I have one of the same mint and officina, but not nearly in as nice condition.

I'm not sure if my example is RIC VII 92, or RIC VII 107....but either way rated R4.

Notice that the OP coin is a pearl diademed helmet(N2) , where mine is laurate(N1).

Congrats on a nice find, Biancasdad.

Doucet,

Thanks much! It is hard to tell if your coin has a dot or not, it may even be a star which would be RIC 120 for the big R5!!

One thing about the OP coin is that the imperial mantle or cloak doesn't look much more than draped to me. I posted this question on FORVM and the consensus seemed to be just another style variation at the mint. I have to admit I am still not convinced.

Anyways, a couple of nice commemoratives
