Poll Question
I am riding the fence on which of these Two Cent Pieces I should keep for my 7070. I have had both of these up in their own Classic Coin Grading threads, and received positive comments. Both have their attributes, I am just looking for some opinions from the CCF Members in a side-by-side comparison on which one to keep. Thank you as always! 1. 1864 Large Motto NGC MS63BN (Medallic Alignment) 2. 1865 Fancy 5 PCGS MS63BN

I say the 1865 that is already in PCGS plastic, that is if it's enough of a variety for your 7070. I prefer the wood grain on that one also.

Although both coins appear equally worthy, I chose the '65 to keep the album consistent with the other specimens which typically do not have 'medal' alignment. It would look sort of odd to see one coin upside down on its page.

When's the next time you're going to see a 2C in medallic alignment? This choice is obvious.

I was kinda figuring that this was not going to be easy.

@bpoc1: Hold any coin between your thumb and index finger such that the obverse is right side up as you look at it. Rotate it about that axis formed by your fingers to see the tails side. If the reverse is upside down, as it will be with nearly all US coins, that's "coin alignment." if the reverse is right side up, that's "medal alignment."

I also knew the medallic alignment piece would win, but I voted for the other one. The first one is more rare and probably worth more, but the second one is what I would want in a type set. The second piece has the classic UNC look for 2c pieces. The first one somewhat looks like a swamp. It's nice, but it does not represent the gorgeous look of the 2 cent piece like the second one. btw, for a 19th century piece, unless the pic is deceiving, I'm surprised PCGS didn't go 'RB' on it.

@ argentum I did know what "medal alignment" meant. The term used in the OP is" Medallic Alignment". This looks like a different terminology.

Oih82w8, knowing the same definition, amazing coin. Is this considered a complete rotated reverse?

Quote: Is this considered a complete rotated reverse? Pretty gosh-darn close to completly rotated, maybe a degree or two off from 180 degrees.
