I was perusing through the Mint's website and I noticed that Taft, McKinley, and T. Roosefelt 100-coin bags from Denver and Philadelphia are sold out.

I have been minding the Mint for some time and haven't seen anything like this.

Does anyone know why the 2013 dollar 100-coin bags are so popular this year? And will the same happen to the Woodrow Wilson bags coming up?

Are the 100 coin $ bags that popular and I have not noticed this?

According to coin news theres nothing unusual about their sales from the last report I saw, they may just have fewer of them ready to go. The numbers they reported were from 3 days ago too so barring a huge run over the weekend Id say they just arent spending as much time preparing them if I had to guess

I thought I had read somewhere that they are discontinuing the $100 bag offering. I suspect that was why they sold these out so quick. Keep in mind these are only being made for collectors now.

Edit: Not discontinued - just sold out quickly apparently according to a recent post on mint news blog...

"Despite the quick and unexplained sell outs for the 100-coin bag products, the US Mint has indicated that the product type has not been discontinued"

Well it might not be a bad idea to buy the Woodrow Wilson P&D bags when they come out.

I like to buy the bags. I think the chance of getting an oddity in a bag is better than in a roll. I recently purchased a 200 count bag of Kennedy halfs (100 each of P&D in the bag) and was looking for the GEM BU ones. I managed to get 20 of each which is about 20% of the bag. Those I will put away and take the rest to the bank and order another bag or two.

Bags are easy to manage a large number of coins. You can have one bag or handle up to 10 rolls of the coins.

Bag marks can be more evident in bags, but the way the coins are packaged from the Mint, the rattling is less evident.

I found this coin in a $25.00 bag of Quarters;

I managed to get through all 200 half dollars with nothing significant found, minus the 20 Gem BU P & D's. Thats cool with me.
I have three quarter bags to go through this week, and then My son and I will start the process all over.
