Chuck_B, the original poster hasn't visited since mid-2014 but he sold the St. Charles note on ebay back then. There is a large size note on ebay currently with no bids...it has an unfortunate pink mark that shows on both sides. 231466946172Based on the J of the president's signature going into the margin below, I am about 99% sure it is a live signature versus a stamped or printed signature. Series of 1929 notes were printed signatures. Keep an eye out at Heritage Auctions http://currency.ha.com/us-currency/...rency-121913 and Lyn Knight http://lynknight.com/home.asp?d=US sometimes you'll find notes you're looking for there.

Chuck B...welcome to the forum! On National Bank notes you kinda have to take what you can get condition wise. Been there, done that! At least the large size note on ebay still has visible hand signed signatures. A lot of the large size notes had rubber stamped signatures that faded out over time. Good luck with your searches. Be careful, as it is real easy to become a collector once you get interested in this stuff!

Hey! I'm still lurking around her occasionally, just been quiet. Yes, they sold shortly after they were posted here.

Collecting is sort of on hold right now. I've actually been doing a bit of "culling" to help get by while unemployed and "clean up" the collections I've set aside for my two boys (they have no idea). About the only thing I've actively purchased lately is Lincoln cents to put together a second full set.

Good that you can purchase some Lincoln cents, most are affordable. I have a partial set lying around somewhere I should finish but I keep finding other things that say "buy me".
I'm going to try and buy at least one of the Educational notes this year. I love the design of them and I think with a little perseverance I can save up enough to do it.

Thank you to all for your replies! Wow, yes, this is one of the notes that my great grandfather signed! I've stirred-up the pot in my family as those who have one (or two) are holding on to them for their lives! Thank you so much for your quick responses; I'll be looking further based on your suggestions and hope to secure the one without getting taken to the cleaners! I must admit that the lure to procure more has got me, so I might just end up a collector after all! Again, thank you for your assistance and in the event you should run across any more in your wanderings please feel free to contact me again!

The old friend Waurika note (with all the pinholes) has showed up again in the upcoming Lyn Knight Memphis auction. He's still estimating it at 1-2k$.
Looks like it's having a tough time finding a permanent home.

Well folks the Waurika note didn't find a home this time around either.
June 2014 @ Lyn Knight no sale January 2015 @ Heritage no sale June 2015 @ Lyn Knight no sale
I thought about bidding and giving this note a permanent home but couldn't talk myself into it. When and where will it appear next?

Was the opening price to high?

The way Lyn Knight's opening bid works is that it is half of the low estimate.
For this lot the estimate was $1,000 to $2,000 thus opening bid was $500. At least 1 bid had been placed since it remained on $600.
I'm thinking, but no way to say for sure, there was a minimum reserve on the lot that wasn't met.
