Seen this set while browsing ebay, I thought Dave might appreciate it.

Is that a fair price for coins that look that bad good?

I like it!

Been carrying a few Ikes around in my pocket for almost a year now hoping to wear them down to a similar degree eventually.

In a complete Morgan date/MM set, only 14 of 97 are unavailable in P01. None of those 8 coins in the auction are among that 14.

Morgan Low Ball sets for the PCGS Registry - people aren't really talking about this - are pretty much out of reach. The #1 set contains thirty-one examples which are Pop 1/0(lower), and the owner is still actively improving the set. Everybody else is just competing for #2 until he gets bored and sells out.

So basically by the time one of these becomes P-1 the date is worn off in most cases?

Negative ... the coin must be identifiable by both date and mint mark ... so a truly slick PO01 coin could not be certified.

I have several 1928 Peace dollars where the date is obvious by the hint of the top loop of the '8' ... but the reverse is too worn to determine if there ever was an "S" mintmark ... such coins are below PO01 and unable to be authenticated.

I would hope not SSuperDdave ... if they are like me they are enjoying the challenge of pursuing fun coins.

Readily admit that I enjoy pursuing a collection of certified low-ball classic silver commemorative ... and my growing set will never leave the #2 position ... that 'fact' does not in any way detract from my pleasure of the pursuit or enjoyment of the dialogue with the #1 leader.

I'll rephrase the question.
Is the reason there are so few P-1 Morgans because the dates or other identifiable characteristics
become obliterated at that level of wear?
