Well I went on another small hunt with the Ace 250- nothing much, but I did find the head of a hatchet!! I think....

The blade isn't well made so I don't know if it's just a hunk of metal or an Indian hatchet head.

But all the other finds were beer cans. See you tomorrow.

Best Find: Possible Hatchet Head

Hunt Time: About An Hour

And ShyShark, Do NOT say anything about expecting more.

Fine, I won't! Actually the hatchet head would be kind of cool. I found a 6" circular saw blade in my back yard when I was getting used to my detector. It's hanging in my garage now. It's become a bit of a conversation piece actually. I need to go back out somewhere and hunt with mine.

very nice! Pics?

That's actually kinda funny.. One of my first finds (my very first find was this 1820 small date large cent... Very lucky! Horrible pic but every dealer at the show I brought it to said its a solid AU) was a very old hatchet head and huge old nail.. About as long as my hand.. I found many other nails but not like this one! Not a Native American hatchet (I don't think) but definitely early American. I live in Massachusetts so we have some pretty old items (for the US at least, lol) to be found... Keep at it and you'll find some great things! And all of the things on this post were found with my old bounty hunter TK2.. I just bought an AT Pro but haven't found anything with it yet.. Granted I really haven't used it much at all yet either... But just goes to show that even with a cheap(er) detector like a bounty hunter nice things can be found!

The only other non modern coin I've found since the 1820 was a 1846 sm date large cent but its pretty beat up.. Vertigris and corrosion.. My friend I was detecting with said he would clean it up for me but ended up scratching the crap out of it.. But in his defense it actually looks much better than it did.. Even with the sratches.. We couldn't make out the date before he messed with it... Too bad it's so pitted/corroded as it had great detail still... I'll probably throw that one up here in a trade list..

Could the "hatchet" be a log peeling spud? (Could a wooden handle goes into the "hammer" side of the "hatchet"?)

My first find was a piece of bent wire and a rusty cassette player...

Very nice! Definitely looks like a hatchet head to me, & more of a "battle head" than a working tool.. pretty neat!! Very cool for your fifth time out, you found a part of history.. imagine what... Or who.. was cut with that!! I don't think mine was a peeling spud.. I had origionally thought it was a hatchet head or maybe a chisel of some sort.

I had actually never even washed it off, the photos I'd first posted were how its looked since I dug it. I'd really forgot about it until coincollector2000's post... So thank you, you motivated me to clean it up and really check it out!!

So this afternoon I really scrubbed it up and the hammer side is definitely not hollow, so not a spud. But there is a hole through the head with groves on each side of the hole, maybe to lash it to a handle? And the holes larger on one side than the other. The > design on both sides of the blade is more apparent and there's actually a serial # on one side, I believe 3002. It definitely looks much better now that it's clean! If someone knows its not a hatchet head definitely let me know! Lol. And thanks again coincollector2000 for reminding me about it! I'd totally forgot until today!
And keep hunting!

That is cool man, and I've been detecting today and I found another penny!
And a water meter lid too that I'm gonna research because I live in Alabama and this one is from Buffalo, NY
The serial number is visible and all the writing is intact so very exciting!!
