Hi,

I found this coin in my garden in Sweden last year, have no other information about it. Would be fun if anyone could tell me what it is.

Thanks,
/Roine

This coin is very much in the style of a long-cross penny of Æthelred II (which circulated in Scandinavia).

I can't get anywhere trying to interpret the legend, though, so if someone was trying to imitate the design of this issue of Æthelred pennies, I can't say if it was done in the medieval period (as was done in Ireland), or perhaps just last week.

I agree - the coin looks like the illustration of an Æthelred II long-cross penny in my Spink catalogue. The lettering however looks more regular and the flan looks almost too perfectly circular for a hammered coin. But there's every reason why a genuine Æthelred II penny should turn up in Scandinavia!

What is the diameter and weight please?

That sounds definitely wrong for an Anglo-Saxon penny - the diameter should be about 19mm and the weight around 1.8 grams (240 Saxon pennies were supposed to weigh one pound or 453g)
