Got this one today for 7$, just cause I thought it looked kinda cool.

I'm not collecting French coins, and would appreciate any thoughts about the grade/value.

Thanks for looking .

It's at least XF, but I can't get more specific than that. 7 bucks is a good price. Most coins of this type I see for sale are F or worse. I feel like these and the Napoleon III 5 centimes are tougher to find in VF or better (at least from my short experience looking for them).

This looks to be AU-50 or 53.

Yea. This is definitely a solid AU. Probably AU50.

Nice pickup at $7.

key spots to look at for wear are: pearls, CONCOR on headdress, leaves behind ear, and the brow and hair above eye. This is a nice one, but not choice IMHO. Note the wear points where the color is redder, and the overall color is less attractive than what a solid AU would show. By this and the marks I think I'm seeing in the fields on both sides I would guess it'd make an XF from the TPGs.

I personally would have said EF. I've got several of these (various dates) but few as nice as this one. The French monthly coin magazine Monnaie Magazine (May 2013 issue) values it at 70 Euros in Superbe (EF)- so you paid a very good price for it!

When I get a chance I'll post a pic of one of the better graded examples of this series in my coll; as you might gather from my nick I have a vested interest in these Ceres/series ;)

The excessive hair wear drops this coin out of AU contention, No way this is "Almost"

Here's a high AU from cgb.

I've found that prices on most French coins go up pretty steeply with grade. But...it's generally a buyer's market. Most US dealers carry a few as curios, not paying much attention to what they have.
