I finally scoped out the local bank and found they have a free coin machine, so I decided to try my hand at coin roll hunting. I went to another local bank and asked for Half Dollars. They only had 3 rolls of customer rolled half dollars, so I bought them and $10 of pennies to make $40.

The first roll (my first roll ever) of half's I scored a 64, the second roll had a 64, a 65 and a 1968. The third roll was empty. Not bad eh? BTW I was born in 1964 so it makes it doubly sweet.

Out of the 20 rolls of pennies I scored 4 wheats, 150 AU coins form before 82 that look like they have lived in rolls all their lives, and probably about 1/2 the 20 rolls were all before 1982.

Now this was from a local bank and they all looked like customer rolled coins. I am guessing this is not the norm or is it? This is a pretty Yuppie suburb of DC so I doubt if there are many people with any time to go roll hunting.

Not bad for $40 eh? plus I'll get at least $33 of that back when I take the rest back to the bank

Perhaps you are in virgin territory. If so, I would pound that area like there's no tomorrow!

I'd be hitting that bank up again in the future. Nice finds!

I had some beginners luck. One of the first times I roll searched, I went to my bank for one roll of nickels and there was one War Nickel in that one roll. But nothing quite like what you have your hands on there, timspong! Imagine going roll hunting in NYC!

Well my second stint didn't go so well. I was all puffed up with confidence and went to a second bank who happened to have a half dollar box in stock. I bought it and to my horror each roll had an X written on it with a sharpie. I guess that one had been gone through before as there wasn't anything of interest in the whole box. However, I bought a box of pennies I am going through and I have found another 4 wheaties in about the first 6 or so rolls.

The hunt is as much of a joy as the find.

Great start!
The first time I ever asked for a half dollars the teller had a 1964 in her tray.
I didnt even really know what that meant at the time.
