Even though the mintage may not be the lowest, I'm sticking with the RP buffalo as my strong performer. Historically special issues have done well with the 3@ silver eagles and the UHR eagle.
The gold spouse could be a sleeper but interest would need to pick up in the series. Granted it wouldn't take much interest but it's a big if if that increase will ever come. Mintage only really matters if demand is greater than supply or its a popular series.
I do agree the regular proof is probably the best bet for a true "sleeper" as I think a lot of people spent their gold fund on the RP instead.

If the final sales of the Buffalo proof is 18,555 or less, that will have a cascading effect in raising the prices. When it was 18,919 yesterday, there was hardly a murmur other than it was sold out. Probably a few large dealer orders got cancelled overnight. I'm bullish on this series of proofs because it's still short enough for someone on even a modest budget to start and maintain a collection of 1oz Buffalo proofs. Thanks to the last three years of special RP ASEs the Buffalo RP was surprisingly popular this year, unlike the 20th Anniversary RP AGE. The low population and the date pressure makes the '13 proof Buffalo the gold coin of this year to get.

I think the 2013 proof Buffalo really wont impress. Its too obvious a choice for starters.
Furthermore, I think that special, one time releases from the US Mint have continued to put in a trend that has continued as he correctly points out with the 2009 UGR, and also look at the various silver eagle sets.
Finally, notice also how well the 5 oz uncirculated series is doing as well.
Its a clear trend- one time silver/gold coins from the US Mint have done well and continue to do well, provided they accent a particular product line that the US Mint has been offering for years.
For this reason, I dont think any of the gold spouse coins will do well after market.

Quote: Hopefully in the long run. Thats what I'm thinking. I'm sure a decent amount were bought for resale and that will need to clear up some as everyones probably listing right now. I think the 09 UHR took a little bit to pick up a raw premium too if I remember right.

I am reviving this thread to see how some of the predictions turned out after about 1 year since the thread was created. I didn't have the fund to get the regular Buffalo Proof..... :( ..... the graded one is currently being offered by APMEX for almost $3K while the RP Buffalo is priced at a little over $2K. With the up coming Kennedy set, I don't have the funding to do catch up and get the regular PF buffalo. Anyone on a similar boat as me?

The regular 2013 gold Buffalo Proof has a much lower mintage than the 2013 RPB and currently it is carring a higher premium. I feel over time the RPB, being a one year only coin, will command premium as high as the 2009 UHR AGE.
There appears to a glut of RPB's for sale keeping the price supressed.

The mintage of RP Buffalo is around 47K vs about 18K for the regular PF Buffalo (2.5 : 1 ratio). The UHR AGE mintage is 115,178. It was mint to demand. I remembered that up until around 2011, one can buy this coin for around $2500 or so....
Time will tell about the RP Buffalo. It's sure good to have both the RP and regular PF Buffalo side by side.
