I inherited this from my late father 6 years ago and do not know the history of this coin or background on how he obtained it. I want to know the history and what it is worth? It is covered in what I believe are small diamonds and sapphires. If anyone has any ideas please reply :) Any info would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Emily

I moved your post, since I think you are looking for answers, and the testing section is not for general posting

That is simply a 1/10 ounce gold eagle that has been put in a pendant. There is no collector value to the coin once it is made into jewelery. So the value is simply melta value of 1/10 ounce of gold plus value of setting and jewels. For that you need to go to a jeweler and have them evaluate the setting.

At this moment gold is at 1296 an ounce. So 129.00 for the eagle.

Okay thank you for the insight! Any jeweler or should I look for a specific type of jeweler?

Any reputable jeweler who deals in precious gems is fine. The pendant is likely 10k or 14k gold too. If the diamonds and sapphires are genuine stones then it is likely the gemstone value is higher than the precious metal value. This could easily be a $500 necklace at retail. Wholesale value is probably $300 or so not to mention the sentimental value.

Actually with gemstones that small the wholesale value of them is minimal. It's been almost thirty years so prices have probably changed some but back then if the stones (diamonds) were less than a quarter carat, prices were typically a dollar a point. (100 points per carat) I've bought 1/4 carat sapphires for under $24.

I agree the retail value might be around $500, but the mark up on jewelry is typically 300 - 400% My guess at the wholesale value is closer to $166.
