I finally received my box. Unfortunately, it has two roughly two inch long scratches on the lid (at about 7:00 PM). These are not deep gouges, but you notice them if you look at the lid. I'm really torn over whether to try to return it for exchange...

...Am I just being too picky? Nothing in this world is perfect: should I expect coins and their display boxes to be any different? Any thoughts on what I should do?

This is a tough one, sturmgrenadier.

If the scratches really don't detract from the box, I would be inclined just to keep it.

Since so many folks including yourself waited so many months to receive their boxes, there's no telling what might happen if you try to exchange it.

On the other hand if they bother you a lot, I would first try and find out if the mint would just send you a replacement box and let you keep the one you have.

Hi sturmgrenadier!

I just came across this on another forum (RFD).

An O Canada 12 coin box for US$15 from an American dealer.

See here: http://www.apmex.com/product/80009/...entation-box

This might be your best route.

NuMoosematist,
Thank you for the tip about these O Canada coin boxes also being available for sale through APMEX, an American dealer that I have coincidentally bought bullion from several times previously. (I guess that I am a dummy for not knowing this about one of my existing dealers). And I know it's already been said many times by others, but these coin forums are really a great resource for collectors:) I went ahead and bought a coin box for the $15.00. I ordered it together with a 5 ounce Mt. Rushmore bullion coin (I've wanted to own one of these 'hockey pucks' for a long time). The shipping for both was $10.00 (I thought it was a reasonable deal).

I had unfortunately already called RCM to set up an exchange yesterday morning (they agreed to ship a replacement upon receipt of the defective one, issuing me an RMA#, etc. But, I suppose that I can wait to receive my box from APMEX (I think that it will be in nice condition: I have only had positive experiences with ordering from them), and then call RCM to cancel the exchange/void out my RMA.

Besides the time and expense of return shipping (which I have never been able to recover from RCM for past defective coin exchanges), one further disadvantage of my doing such an exchange is that RCM required me to exchange both the defective box and Niagara coin (mine is in excellent condition); so I would have had to risk receiving (a good coin box and) a defective coin in exchange - how ironic that would be:( I look forward to completing my O Canada set like other posters here. Congratulations to those here who have already done so.
