No close/wide designation for 1970 (that I am aware of). As far as the "FG", need a clearer picture of that area. Likely die wear, polished die, damage, etc.

I say it's a Close AM because of natural wear. The devices have flattened enough over time to seem as though they touch now. I agree with JJHFL as needing clearer pics for the FG.

It appears the "A" in "STATES' is equidistant between the "T"'s, therefore it is a WAM. In a true CAM the "A" would be slightly closer to the second "T". I agree with rpmes, flattened devices due to natural wear making it look like a CAM.

It can't be a Close AM. They didn't start till 1993.

Here is what George is talking about with the location of the "T" in STATES:
1970-D-Close-AM-Penny-?

Missing "FG" was polished away to remove clash marks. They "FG" is part of the coin's design, not something that didn't get added to the die. Impossible for it to be missing from the fresh die. Just polished away.
