1901-O Morgan VAM 1A? - Coin Community Forum

When going through my Morgans I happened to notice a couple of things with this one. After going to Vamworld and looking up the 01-O Morgan I found some of the markers for a VAM 1A. Can anyone confirm or tell me if it's something different? Thanks in advance. Here's the full obverse and reverse followed by four pics showing some of the markers. Report this Post to the Staff

aladinslamp Pillar of the Community United States 3076 Posts	Posted 08/22/2013 12:20 am like many a VAM, they can share many features, and clashes.. the 1901-0 VAM 1, has 3 stages. of which yours could be one of them but with so few photo's...it doesn't really dial it in to exactly the VAM or the stage. which is important in its own right.. I would suggest some more close ups of the die breaks and traditional photo's of the letter transfer areas , the S and T ect.....and buy the way...... your shown photo's have so much polishing within the hair and ear its a screammer.....not shown in the VAM 1A....but it does not mean that it is not a 1A....I am simply saying you cannot take take the 2 closeups......and make it so.........so take some more photo's of the pickup points you think ////NOT....take more photo's of the coin with the coins pick up points like the die breaks and such that will confirm or lead us directly to the VAM's designation.... Great to see you here Gene Mind you I 'm not asking to disprove you....but rather to show you how to present a process that fully proves your assumptions..more photo's are needed....and its a great help to others who are just getting into Vams..... In your case, guessing you're not one of the hardcore regulars, it'd probably be more polite to post those detail images - they're really good - in a thread on the Message Board and ask the membership to add them to the page. One of the regular editors will happily step up for you. The reason I'm pushing this is, it's assumed that there will be a UEDS (ultra-early die state) which shows no clashing and some of the details you've come up with would be a great help in identifying that coin when it appears. aladinslamp Pillar of the Community United States 3076 Posts	Posted 08/23/2013 12:05 am It is not doubt in which I made my reply,about your VAM 1A...As SD has noted you have more attributes than are listed/shown on VAM World but to those who are on the bottom end of the learning curve......its nice to go through the process of leaning how to understand the VAM thing and see its progressions, it is obvious in the ear..as to what it is.... however...for the learning curve I don't advise to solve "ADVANCED" pick up points to the average reader....who are just leaning the basics...The point of my post was to start from the basics and then confirm to the readers here of your findings.. NOT...to those of us who have experience under standing the "die poop" method...THE METHOD of realizing Pick up points that are of a later stage of any coins progression.....which in turn will classify its known or unknown VAM designation.... From that the EAR is the killer point....and yours is very pronounced..... TO the average inquirer.....of vams...... "the smoking gun" of your coin...and its identity..... is not the way I hope to teach VAM readers... the "TOA of VAMMING" its a process of understanding what constitutes a VAM........RATHER than saying all Morgans are vams.... noted as well as all Peace dollars are vams... But my intention as it was a few years ago, with my "VAMIT" post hear...was to introduce the general reader into what it is with a practicle game/exercise by which one could explore the basics of vamming and then get to a "technicle" side of understanding where the basics branch off and the finite of "ultra vams begin"... "SO THEY SAY" LOL..... SD was correct in his identity, of your coin......I simply wanted you to show us more evidence........AS MANY show poor photo's, no pick up points ect... in which we re readers are supposed to tell you what you have, but rather I would waist my time explaining....the process.....not arguing the outcome....G Report this Post to the Staff
