Well, I got kind of tired of sitting at the house tonight, so I grabbed my detector and ran out the door. I went to the local community center and thought I would give it a go, even though I have been there several times over the last two months and did not expect to find much. As soon as I started sweeping the ground I was getting hits. I would have kept going, but the flashlight batteries went dead and I couldn't see in the darkness of 11:30 PM. But for about an hour of searching, I found $3.06 all in an area around a large oak tree. Not bad if I may say so. The coins are currently in a rock tumbler with some sand and grit getting cleaned off, so most of them can go back out into the world!

That is good me bouy. I use aquarium gravel and vinegar in mine. At that rate you will have the detector paid for soon!

Well, technically it was paid for back in like 1995 or whenever it was I got it as a Christmas present. But, yeah, it's paying for itself! As I have said to people before, if the US would get on board with dollar coins, these searches would be MUCH more profitable!

Also, I never thought about putting vinegar in the solution when I clean those coins in the rock tumbler. I will start doing that. Here's a follow-up pic of the cleaned coins. The background is the same, but I guess the outside daylight added some brightness to the clean coin photo. Sorry it's not a true duplication of the original conditions, but I think people can get an idea of how much cleaner the coins are. And just to cover the bases, in case someone looks at this and says "No! Don't do that to those coins!" I checked them out before tumbling them and made sure there were no silver coins, obvious rare dates or anything that would make them worth more than face value. Just want to clean them up so they can return to work.

Today I only found five coins, but one was a toonie so I came far ahead anyway.

Whenever I dig a loonie or toonie, I think - "How boring would this be if I lived in America?"!

That sounds like a cartoon station to me.

Ya, really. I'm in the U.S.
I just recently found my first ever U.S. dollar coin (pres.)
while out one day. A lot better though and easier on the back than digging 100 cents
I'm all done digging the zincolns now. Have the tone etc. down
on those. Only problem is that the coppers have a tone like
the clads or some silvers so still have to take a look.

I still dig them all, even the zinc. Of course, I end up having to dispose of about half of those because of zinc rot, but I still like the hunt.
