Does anyone know anything about this sale? I see this coin on ebay tonight: http://www.ebay.com/itm/111148101681I was quite intrigued by the holder (plus the coin is spectacular). I noticed that C&P had auctioned off a catalog from the Frontenac Sale. I would've only been 4 years old at the time, so I'm just wondering if it was an annual auction, or if it was a significant collection. Any knowledge would be appreciated!

Very cool. I have the catalog from that auction (don't have prices realized). On page 367 is where that coin is listed. It says in the description (there is no photo of this particular coin) that there is a 'minor planchet flaw in right obverse field.' They have the grade estimated as MS60-63. No estimate on price.
"The sale name is derived from the Frontenac Collection, a fantastic holding of Canadian coins, including prime rarities, formed over a long period of years by a prominent American connoisseur."
That's how the description for the sale starts and goes on for a few pages.

Thanks chequer!
I definitely wasn't expecting anyone here to have a catalog. Thanks for advising on grade as well. The pictures aren't great, but I was guessing 63-64, so you may have saved me a few bucks on it!

It sold for $256. I couldn't bring myself to bid, as the photos weren't very good and I didn't like the looks of the obverse. Could be a nice coin though.

I bought it. Seller has a return policy. I want to see it in hand. Charging $30 to send to Canada though :S

Yeah, I inquired about the shipping too. If it'll grade clean, you may have a great deal. The reverse looks fantastic... post a shot of the obverse when you get it.

Will do. I had contacted the seller asking about grade, and he said he'd send me more information the following day, but never did. Oh well - wait and see. If it's a 63, I'll be quite happy.

Not sure if I'm ever going to see this coin. Seller hasn't sent an invoice or responded to my messages. I'll keep waiting, but there's nothing I can do in the meantime.

That's weird. There's usually a 'request an invoice' link somewhere on the auction or in the winning email, if I remember correctly. Not that that will definitely illicit a response, but it may give them a reminder.

I did that Monday morning, and no response. Followed up with a message yesterday morning, and another request last night.
Maybe he's a way for a few days. Who knows, maybe he'll feel bad for the lack of response and drop the shipping costs a little!

Shrug... maybe the seller is like me... they bought a new motorcycle and suddenly, ebay seems soooo far away....

Invoice received, only $25 for shipping... minor win!
SPP - I did something similar once. And now I no longer have 100% positives lol

Meh - so what... your virtual feedback rating is not pristine....
People know me at coin shows and know my reputation as a seller with face-to-face transactions... I put very little faith in virtual feedback as to the credibility of a seller (experience and a history of previous good transactions count for more in my books), sometimes even if you bend over backwards, you still get negative feedback.
If I get negative feedback, I just say... "oh well".... and block the bidder from future purchases. Like any business, I do have the right to refuse service... I view it as their loss in the end, because most people like my opinion and grades of raw coins and they like the coins they buy from me...
I almost feel sorry for those who go crazy in pursuit of 100% feedback rating, as if it really mattered...

It's pretty. I like the toning. I would say MS 62 or 63. Is the mentioned planchet flaw the small mark that looks like a scratch?
