Hi Everyone,

The copper on this one is really really grainy. Almost like copper powder fused to the coin surface. Pebbly. I suspect that the exposed zinc is from later damage, but I am not sure about that. What thoughts can you share with me about it?

It looks like it was exposed to acid

it's not trash if you can get a cent for it lol.
it is gas bubbles under the copper coating. Zinc and oxygen do not get along very well at all. add about four more of them together and get yourself some gum. it is still a cent

Interesting. Maybe someone tried to clean it or it had a serious accident.

That looks like a beach penny I would pick up
metal detecting. The salt water eats them up and the sand grinds
the copper off.

it could be salt but on this coin the damage came from inside the coin. air got to the zinc and the damage was done. it don't take long either.
