Here is one I found in a roll from the bank. It is, in my opinion, pretty cool. I really enjoy looking for and finding error coins! laters - Tony

How can you tell it's an error and not something that happened during circulation? ....excuse my dumb questions, not trying to knock your find, I really don't know.

That is a darn good question and I'll try to answer it as best I can. First off, I don't know that it is an error. I have compared it to what other folks have called a Cud error and it looks like one. The rim is not squished and the blob on the obverse is just that - a blob. It is raised from the face. The reverse is somewhat weak right there. I didn't scan it because I didn't think that it was all that important, but I can if it supports the case for calling it a Cud. Since it involves the rim, it fits the definition of a Cud. How's my logic so far? - Tony

Yes, very nice Cud! Do not confuse a die chip with a Cud. A die chip is pretty simple- a chip(from stress cracks or impacts) on the surface of the die. A Cud is created when a coin is struck with a die that has had part of the edge and shank cracked off. When the coin is minted, metal from the planchet flows smoothly into this void creating a featureless blob on that side of the coin and it creates weakness on the other side of the coin in that spot. The bigger they are, the higher the value

I'm not interested in selling coins on ebay. I listed a Lincoln Penny with a fill error that is almost a dead ringer for one shown in this forum a page or two down and the buyer starts jumping up and down about how it is a fake, yadda, yadda. We have a paypal claim going about it just now. In a way, I hope that he actually wins the dispute and I get the coin back ( I did offer to refund his purchase price, but that wasn't good enough for him ) and then I'll send it off to ANACS and get it authenticated so I can blow raspberries in his general direction. . I have sold quite a few vintage fountain pens on ebay and never had anyone balk at the sale like this joker. So, I'll hold on to what I have and just enjoy them for right now. At some point down the road, I may be interested in trading some coins with other coin folks either here or other forums, but for right now, I am just soaking up the knowledge! Coins are cool!
