Not claiming to be smart or a good miner but...

I found some Magnetite/Hematite locally and a few other oddities with it. I am looking for a way to very what exactly I have found in the quartz veins and the small nugget. Any particular easy test? All pics are of non-magnetic stuff. I already separated out the magnetite. Thanks for the help!

YMy guess, just from what I can see, is the mineral sphalerite. Sphalerite is usually deep red to black with a semi metallic luster. I don't know where you found it but it would not be out of the question to find it with the other minerals mentioned.

Wow! After looking that up I think you are correct! I would lean towards the marmatite variety as it is black in color to the naked eye! I'm glad I asked thank you. This is from CT and the quartz found does have a red stain which I read would accompany marmotite as it is iron rich

- Alas no precious metals...

There are some great mineral locations in Connecticut. I have a hard time keeping the car on the road driving through some of those roadcuts around Danbury. I love pegmatite veins! Sphalerite is one of my favorite minerals, alas, I have only seen it once in the wild. Your post got the mineral hunting juices flowing again! Unfortunately, my mobility limitations also limit my mineral hunting locations. It is nice to "rockhiund"vicariously on occasion. Thanks for the opportunity.
