Heath-Literary-Award

This is a recent medal I created for The Numismatist. I used photos and a Barber relief to develop the Dr. Heath portrait. The pole-mounted Lamp of Knowledge appeared on early copies of The Numismatist magazine. The press on the reverse is my rendition of what Dr. Heath used to print each copy singlehandedly. Q.David Bowers graciously sponsored this project by funding the strikes of this 3" nickel silver (and 3" bronze) award for the next 25 years. The award debuted recently at the Chicago World's Fair of Money. Recipients are chosen for their contributions to research/publishing related to Numismatics. Fittingly, Mr. Bowers was chosen as the first recipient of the redesigned award.

Lovely work - it shows a fine understanding of medal design, which is a far cry from just creating some pleasing artwork and slapping it onto a planchet.
Rest in Peace

Stunning. The depth of the press makes it look like a miniature working model. It's really something.

And you made me look up 'de profundis'.

Very beautiful design. The birds on the reverse were a great finishing touch imo
