Resubmitting is a small and inevitable hurdle in the hobby. Thankfully, the market will find the true value for coins regardless of what a pop report says. A pop report might show say 50 examples of a coin now vs 25 examples a decade ago. But if it still only shows up at auction the same 3-4 times a year, the pop report number is largely irrelevant.

I put coins in TPG's as it confirms my grading ability and also because the grading cost is a token of it's value. I put my banknotes in TPG's because they are more fragile and my ability to grade them is not as keen as with coins. I pay to trust their judgment as well as to pay to solidify value.

I purchased a Canadian 1957 1WL Silver Dollar I.C.C.S. graded PL 65 in a online auction from one of the well respected auction companies only to find when it arrived that the holder was torn and the coin was for sure not a 1WL or in PL condition so my guess is that the coin was removed and resubmitted therefore adding to the population reports.(and yes the auction house refunded my money but will never deal with them again) Bob

A little less "well-respected" now? There is a similar story from the 2013 June Torex auction, whereby the 1957 SWL dollar ICCS flip was broken and separated from the certificate, and held together with an elastic... I would hate to have been the online bidder for that piece.

Probably the same piece being.."moved around"... You'd hope that an auction house would pick up on a problem piece and holder ... before the auction.... Would you tell us where and when this took place?

Any expert opinions here on how Torex could let that one slip through?
I'm sure that ICCS could have quickly re-certified that piece before Torex put it in the auction...(if there was any doubt on it ?)

From the way you describe the coin and the holder, I would think that someone removed the coin from the holder and substituted a different coin. You I am sure could have compared the picture of the coin that you received to the one that was in the auction.

I believe the very same coin was sold at Torex in February 2011(item #3189) as the description is the same as the coin that I purchased ( Did not know this until after searching Torex)again must have been returned my the bidder... unbelievable Bob

Carly1, are you sure this is from the Torex on October 2011? There was only one Torex Auction in the year 2011 and that was in June. I've purchased hundreds of coins from T.C.N.C and never had any problems. Also T.C.N.C. is the only internet auctioneers among the top 3 that will accept refunds if not satisfied. (G.Bell auction and Charles Moore auctions do not accept refunds) Glenn

gleny1: I'm positive that this coin is from Torex October 29 2011 and the other coin is from February 26 2011 Torex auction. The coin from October 2011 was item #3109 and the second coin was (item # 3189).When I returned the coin with a letter stating my disappointment I received a refund very quickly so if you go onto those two Torex auctions you can see for yourself. Glenn, there was a Torex auction in October 2011. Charles Moore was the auctioneer.

I looked back at all the icollector auctions in 2011 and couldn't find one. However, if Moore was the auctioneer, not all his auctions are on icollector.com. Anyhow, I'm glad things worked out for you Carly. I can understand a bad taste left in your mouth over this deal, however, keep in mind, 99% of auction transactions (purchases) from the Big 3 go without a hitch. (at least from my experiences.....LOL) Glenn

Glenn: my experience with Torex or any other auctions (except this one October 2011) have gone with out any problems this all started with talk of population reports being incorrect and yes Moore was the auctioneer. Bob

Quote: (G.Bell auction and Charles Moore auctions do not accept refunds) You are very wrong about the Bell auctioneers... and if you include the larger auction houses in the US (e.g., Heritage) or Europe, then your interpretation of what is the "Top Three Internet Auctioneers" is severely limited to your own perception and opinion... You are entitled to your own opinion, but I don't want new collectors here thinking there are not better choices out there.
