So I considered not going back to the community center, since I have already found so many coins in the ground there and thought "what else could there be?" But, curiosity got the best of me so back I went, just to find out my MD batteries were dying on me. After a delay (and $12.00 for two 9 volts - gas station at 2 AM was my only close-by option...) I went back to the hunt. An hour and a half, a random key (key 1913 no less!) and $1.42 in coin later, I called it a night. One of the cents I found is noticeably larger in diameter than the others, but weighs as a zinc cent should and seems to be of comparable thickness to other cents. I don't have a micrometer but maybe I will get it checked at the LCS. Anyway, all this just goes to show, even if a place has been dug and hit tons of times, there's always something that got left behind.

And one more trip there last night yielded more treasure. I'll put the pic here to keep from adding another topic. Another .77 cents, including my second Wheat cent found with the MD (1957-D).

On a side note, I kind of considered trying to make a date set comprised entirely of coins I found while MDing. Anyone ever thought of this or tried it?

Mine was a birthday present from my mom like 15 years ago. At the time, I thought, "What am I going to do with this?" Good thing I kept up with where it was stored. I may not find huge treasure troves, but I enjoy the hunt!

Good hunts!!

I went out yesterday and found $1.75 in change!!

But I hunted for quite a few hours, so I got really tired....

But on a side note I found out that someone lost their marbles!!

Last night, I went out to a local park that's about two blocks from my house. I figured it was a small park but still had decent traffic, so maybe I would get lucky. This guy was walking his dog. He told me he hunted there with his detector and came out every week, but had picked the park dry over the last several months. Every time he walked by me on the walking path, he'd say "I told you there's nothing here." Finally, as I was preparing to leave and he passed me again, I showed him the bent up ring and .79 cents I found. He said "If I didn't know better, I'd say you brought it with you." Guess it once again goes to show you can never count an area out, even if someone has been there before you. Seems like my first few times to hunt yielded like maybe a cent and a quarter. I never found nickels even. Now I have figured it out and find nickels, cents, rings, keys, etc. Did you find anything old in the money you found?

Oldest was a 1964 penny, but hey if it was a dime or quarter it would have been silv!

It's more than you had when you started! I keep a running tally of my dollar amount found. It's interesting to see how much I have dug up since I started looking. It all goes into my end-of-year coin stash that I spend on coins at the start of the new year.

Went to a new spot to dig (small park) and found .24 cents. Then I went back to my new favorite spot and found .90 more cents before rain drove me away. Among the finds was a 1959 nickel. Good for me since I keep all 1959 and earlier nickels. I'll post pics after cleaning the money up some. In the meantime, here's the .79 cents I found last night at the park around the corner that had been "picked clean" by a local resident.
