OK, I sold an MS-67 FB Merc Dime for about HALF market value. This auction closed last Sunday, and the woman was soooo excited about the price she has yet to respond. I sent her a PM yesterday morning, still with no reply.

Now, I'm not depressed about not having shipped a $125 coin for $67. But I do want to do the right thing and complete the transaction. It still says I owe her feedback, and at some point I would think the auction should be null and void.

SO... how long should I wait, and if no reply what can I do?

Did you send her an invoice? I can't remember but did your auction list a time limit for a deadline to pay? The person could easily be out of town for a few days. I'd wait a bit longer and see.

Grace, I saw the send invoice option and no I have not. I thought that was for a retailer or something like that. Is that required? My only ebay transaction was a purchase. And I simply PM'd them, informing the dealer I would call the next day with a credit card.

What does sending an invoice actually do? I only know invoices for being business to business related.

I personally always send an invoice if they have not paid immediately just as a reminder. It is not necessary.

I also send invoices on all my sales unless the buyer has paid faster than I can get out the invoices. Also, within an hour of the close of the auction, I'll send them an email congratulating them and otherwise personalizing the transaction to let them know I keep the lines of communication open and operational until the transaction is completed.

Where I have a real problem is very similar to the Troops': when the buyer doesn't communicate at all. In all my auction descriptions, I request a message from the buyer if for no other reason than to let me know that s/he knows s/he has won the auction. (Too many people read their email only once per week or less frequently.) If within two or three days I still have heard nothing from a buyer, I'll send them another message via the ebay messaging system (for the record) merely asking to hear from them. If after five to seven days there still is nothing heard, I'll send them another message asking if there is anything I can do from my end if there is a problem at their end.

There are a lot of reasons buyers may not have responded. I have to take into account that there are a certain number of people out there who are scared to death of computers, email, and the internet in general and are reluctant to send messages or emails. There are also a certain number who are so semi-literate that they are embarrassed to compose and send any messages. Last, there is always the possibility their computer crashed or they are having ISP problems. Eventually, they finally respond in some manner although I have fits waiting for them.

However, I have not had a non-paying bidder in many years. The last one, it turned out, had died right after winning the auction.

If I get no reply in 48 hours after I send an invoice. I send an e-mail saying I am not trying to rush you but how do you plan to pay for this if its a MO please use US POSTAL.

I also always send an invoice ,, even if the buyer has paid immediately ,, I still send one labeled for your records .

I wait 5 to 7 days If I have not heard from the buyer I send a reminder invoice with a note that asks if the buyer wants to complete the sale ,,please respond to the invoice !!

If I get no response within a couple of days after that I file the non paying bidder ,, if they respond after that you have the option of completing the sale, or ending communication with the buyer each with different consequences ,, if the buyer does not respond to the NPB in 8 days you can then end the dispute ,get a refund of your FVF and relist the Item .

So I received the payment and I shipped it out today. At least the lady was nice. She said for what it's worth, she bid considerably higher. It's just nobody came in behind her and bid it up.

Glad to hear you got paid. Boy there is nothing more frustrating than seeing 10 people watching an item and the price doesn't reflect market value in the end. In a way, I think she was telling you "I feel your pain" because she knew she got a pretty good deal.

Did you by chance post it here for sale prior to ebay? I haven't looked into the buying and selling much here lately.
